Pippa for PROMOTION
Pippa was quietly enjoying her very stable work and life. Early forties, leading a team of eight diverse technologists, Pippa was very satisfied. Her unspoken dream to become an executive seemed to be unfolding as planned many years before.
Suddenly Pippa realised “the clock was ticking” - unfavourably. Pippa’s very stable and calm career development trajectory was not going to give the uplift required to make the executive level before P was perceived as being too old.
We worked together on improving how Pippa approached networking, and also on the additional skills Pippa needed in general management of companies, strategy developing-setting-communicating-managing, succession implementation and managing upwards with intention.
Within three months Pippa was ready to pass leadership of her existing delivery team to another junior leader with great potential that Pippa was mentoring. Pippa increasingly was visible in the department at key moments, and also for special assignments.
Opportunity came when Pippa’s line manager decided to step away from the business and nominated Pippa as his successor. With some more coaching, and mentoring from her future direct managers, Pippa made the leap successfully from team leader of 8 to department leader of 50!
It was not easy. Right from the start Pippa had to quickly address inherited personnel challenges and other ambiguous situations.
Whilst taking on the new responsibilities and addressing challenges, Pippa reached out to, and radically improved relationships with, other departments. These relationships gained welcomed efficiencies for multiple people - including Pippa’s directors who were super pleased.
